About Anne's current paintings
Anne's most recent motif exploration is centered around the OM symbol. Each painting is an original acrylic on canvas, and most are 12" x 12". Anne uses metallic paints in shades of lavender, copper, green, silver, and three golds, which create a beautiful luminescence and glow difficult to capture in a photo. They are suitable for your personal meditation area, as well as any space where you spend time and wish to be mindfull of spiritual practice throughout your busy day. Designed to be affordable, the price of each piece includes shipping to your residence or business.
An Interpretation of the OM Symbol
The Om symbol is a stylized pictograph which represents states of consciousness. It consists of three curves, one semi-circle, and a dot.
The large lower curve on the left symbolizes the waking state, when the consciousness is turned outwards through the gates of the senses. The larger size signifies that this is the most common state of human consciousness.
The upper left curve denotes the state of deep sleep or the unconscious state, where the sleeper desires nothing nor beholds any dream.
The middle curve to the right signifies the dream state, which lies between deep sleep and the waking state. The consciousness of the individual is turned inwards, and the dreaming self beholds an enthralling view of the world behind the eyelids.
The dot signifies a state of consciousness where the individual looks neither outwards nor inwards nor the two together. This utterly quiet, peaceful, and blissful state is found through spiritual activity, and illuminates the other three states.
Finally, the semi-circle below the dot symbolizes maya, and separates the dot from the other three curves. It is maya, the illusion of separateness between the self and the universe, that prevents the realization of this highest state of peace. The semi-circle is open at the top, and when ideally drawn does not touch the dot. This means that this highest state is not affected by maya.
With its special shape and unique sound, Om lends itself to a variety of detailed symbolic interpretations.
Anne holds a Bachelors Degree in Studio Painting and an Associate in Arts Degree in Apparel Design and Construction. Her drawings, paintings, and textile prints are held in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad.
